Dr. Jason Knudtson

Dr. Knudtson, a South Dakota native, received his undergraduate degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN and received his MD from the University of South Dakota.  From there he completed a transitional residency at the University of South Dakota, a general surgery residency at the University of Kansas in Wichita, KS and finally a surgical critical care fellowship at the Beth Israel Deaconess/Harvard Medical School program in Boston, MA.

After finishing his surgical residency, he joined a private surgical practice in the Boston area.  After completing his critical care fellowship, he returned to Kansas where he initially was in a private surgical practice and then for a time was a full-time intensivist.  He joined Western Surgical Care in December 2010.

Dr. Knudtson is board certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of multiple societies including: the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Hernia Society and the American Medical Association.  His surgical interests include basic and advanced laparoscopic surgery- including stomach, colon and small bowel surgery in addition to laparoscopic approaches to solid organ surgery.  Additionally he enjoys thyroid and parathyroid surgery and repair of simple and complex abdominal wall hernias.  He is the first general surgeon to utilize the da Vinci robotic system at Rose Medical Center and is accepting patients for this new & exciting technology for a variety of indications.  Additionally, he is now evaluating patients suffering from reflux for the EsophyX procedure- a new incisionless antireflux procedure.
